All pets should wear some form of identification tag at all times. The tag must include a contact number and probably the name if the pet. A proper identification tag can become your pet’s ticket home if she or he gets lost. Microchips offer an extra level of protection if your pet gets separated from his or her tag and collar. Indeed, they ensure a happy reunion if the unthinkable happens – your favorite pet gets separated from his tag and got lost.
What’s pet microchips?
These are small, permanent pet identification electronic chips injected between the pet’s shoulder blades with a need. The process of embedding this chip into your pet’s body is just as quick as vaccination. In fact, most pets go through this process without squeaking.
The microchip is enclosed in a glass cylinder and doesn’t have a battery. It is activated by a scanner when passed over the area where it’s embedded. The radio waves produced by the scanner activates the chip, and the chip transmits the identification information to the scanner. This information is displayed on a screen.
Is pet microchipping painful?
The microchip or transponder is injected under the pet’s skin using a specialized hypodermic needle. It’s not more painful compared to a typical injection, though the needle is slightly bigger than those used during vaccination.
Your pet won’t need anesthesia or surgery. Besides, the microchip can be implanted during routine visits to the veterinary facility. If your beloved pet is already under anesthesia for a certain procedure such as spaying or neutering, the microchip can be successfully implanted while the dog or cat is still under anesthesia.
Information contained in a pet’s microchip
Currently, the microchips used in pets only contain identification numbers. These are not GPS devices and cannot transmit your pet’s location. Though the current tech microchips don’t contain your pet’s medical details, there are specific microchips registration databases that let you store such information for quick reference.
Each pet chip has a unique code that, when displayed by a scanner, allows animal shelters to locate the pet owner quickly. Remember, these experts use some form of a scanner to read the chip through the pet’s skin. The animal will feel nothing when the scanner is passed over the area where the chip embedded.
Why pet microchipping?
In a perfect world, fences, doors, and leashes would be enough to keep your favorite pet safe within your property. In the real world, however, accidents happen, and your playful pet depends on your protection against the endless list of things that could go wrong.
Pet microchipping is a concept that allows you, with little effort, to take a big step towards making sure that your furry buddy will always be with you or safe at home. Once the chip is implanted, it doesn’t have to be replaced in the future.
